BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA
, February 15, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointments:
Deborah Satanove of Richmond is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in New Westminster. She replaces Mr. Justice W.S. Selbie who resigned.
Madam Justice Satanove graduated in law from the University of Alberta in 1981 and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1982. From 1982 to 1983, she practised law in Coquitlam with Parks, Feller. She then joined the firm Ladner, Downs in
Vancouver with whom she has been a partner since 1988. Madam Justice Satanove has practised civil and commercial litigation.
This appointment is effective immediately.
The Honourable Judge Sunni Stromberg-Stein of Vancouver is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in New Westminster. She replaces Mr. Justice B.D. Macdonald who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.
Madam Justice Stromberg-Stein graduated in law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1975 and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1976. From 1976 to 1989, she was a prosecutor for the Attorney General of British Columbia. Madam Justice
Stromberg-Stein was appointed to the Provincial Court of British Columbia in 1989, where she has been sitting in the Criminal Division since 1990.
This appointment is effective February 16, 1996.
