ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 7, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Mr. Justice Hugh David P. Logan of Barrie is appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Ontario Court (General Division), Central East Region. He replaces The Honourable Madam Justice Jean MacFarland of Newmarket, who resigned that position and is reappointed a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) in Toronto.

Mr. Justice Logan graduated in law from Dalhousie University in 1961, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1963. He was appointed to the County Court of the County of Simcoe in 1981, and was appointed Senior Judge of that court in 1984. Mr. Justice Logan has been a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) since 1990.

Madam Justice Jean MacFarland graduated in law from Queen's University, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1973. She was appointed to the High Court of Justice of the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1987. Madam Justice MacFarland was appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Ontario Court (General Division), Central East Region, in 1990.

These appointments are effective immediately.-
