ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA
, November 8, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:
Edwin B. Minden of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) in Newmarket. He replaces Mr. Justice J.A. Goodearle who resigned.
Mr. Justice Minden graduated in law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1976 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1978. Mr. Justice Minden acted as Assistant Crown Attorney, in North York, from 1978 to 1987. He then joined the firm of Carter,
McCombes & Minden. Since 1995, he has been practising with the firm of Cooper, Sandler, West & Skurka. Since 1989, he has also been acting as part-time Assistant Crown Attorney in Newmarket. Mr. Justice Minden's law practice has been
restricted to criminal law and related areas.
Mr. Justice Minden has been Director of the Criminal Lawyers Association for Toronto since 1989 and, he has been Co-Chair of the Education Committee and Convention Committee of the Criminal Lawyers' Association of Ontario, since 1993. He has
also frequently lectured on criminal law and procedure at the Bar Admissions Courses and at the University of Toronto.
This appointment is effective immediately.
