QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, May 8, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Mr. Justice Armand André Forget of Montreal is appointed a judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal in Montreal. He replaces Mr. Justice C. Bisson, who resigned.

Mr. Justice Forget obtained a Licentiate in Laws from the University of Montreal in 1963, and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1964. Before being appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in 1982, he practised law with the firm of Forget, Rochon, Prévost and Auclair in St-Jérôme.

François Rolland of Île des Soeurs is appointed a judge of the Quebec Superior Court for the District of Montreal. He replaces Mr. Justice A. Forget who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Rolland obtained a Licentiate in Laws from the University of Montreal in 1974, and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1975. Since that time, he has practised mainly in the areas of commercial litigation and insurance law with the firm of Martineau, Walker, where he has been a senior partner since 1983.

While practising law, Mr. Justice Rolland has been very active with the Canadian Bar Association. He has been a guest lecturer a number of times for the Canadian Institute, the Canadian Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Quebec Bar Association on subjects such as crisis management, manufacturers' liability, competition law and professional liability.

These appointments are effective May 9, 1996.
