NEWFOUNDLAND JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA

, August 7, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:

James Palmer Adams, Q.C., of St. John's is appointed a judge of the Newfoundland Supreme Court (Trial Division) in Grand Bank. He replaces Madam Justice M. Dunn, who was transferred to St. John's to replace Mr. Justice J.D. Green, who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Adams graduated in law from the University of New Brunswick in 1975, and was admitted that year to the Bar of Newfoundland. Mr. Justice Adams has since been practising law with the firm known today as Patterson, Palmer, Hunt, Murphy. Mr. Justice Adams has practised mainly in the areas of civil litigation, administrative law and employment law.

Mr. Justice Adams has been active within the Canadian Bar Association and has lectured at the Bar Admission Course of the Newfoundland Law Society. He was a Founding member and is a Past Chair of the Public Legal Information Association of Newfoundland.

This appointment is effective immediately.
