ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, December 13, 1995 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney
General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Mr. Justice David C. McDonald of Edmonton is appointed ajudge of the Court of Appeal of Alberta in Edmonton. He replaces Mr. Justice J.J. Stratton, who resigned.
Mr. Justice McDonald graduated in law from the University of Alberta in 1953,
and obtained a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from Oxford University in 1956. He
was admitted to the Bar of Alberta in 1958. From 1958 to 1973, he practised
law with the firm McCuaig Desrochers in Edmonton. In 1974, he was appointed to
the Supreme Court of Alberta (Trial Division), and he has sat as a member of
the Court of Appeal of Alberta on numerous occasions. Since 1984, he has been
Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of the Yukon Territory and since 1990, a
judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada. Mr. Justice McDonald was
the first president of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice
(1974-1977). He is the author of Legal Rights in the Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms as well as several articles for legal publications.
This appointment is effective immediately.
