BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, June 26, 1995 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Mr. Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:

Alexander Fraser Wilson of Prince Rupert is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Prince George. He replaces Mr. Justice J.E. Spencer, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Wilson obtained a law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1974, and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1975. He has been practising law since 1976 with the firm now known as Silversides, Wilson & Seidemann, in Prince Rupert.

Mr. Justice Wilson has mainly practised civil and commercial litigation. He is a founding member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. He was president of the Prince Rupert County Bar Association in 1980-1981. Since 1992, he has been chairperson of the Labour Relations Committee.

This appointment is effective immediately.
