BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, December 20, 1995 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:

Barry Michael Davies of Kelowna is appointed a judge of the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vernon. He replaces Mr. Justice K.F. Arkell, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Davies graduated in law from the University of British Columbia in 1978, and was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1979. From 1979 to 1980, he practised in Vancouver with the firm Shrum, Liddle & Hebenton (known today as McCarthy Tétrault), and from 1980 to 1982 in Kelowna with the firm Warren, Ladner, Berge & Co. He then joined the firm Harder, Pushor, Hannah & Co. (known today as Pushor, Mitchell, Davies, Montgomery & Co.). Mr. Justice Davies has mainly practised civil litigation, with emphasis on commercial litigation, professional negligence and family litigation.

This appointment is effective January 10, 1996.
