BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 18, 2002 - The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Brenda J. Brown of Vancouver is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver. She replaces Mr. Justice Allan D. Thackray who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Madam Justice Brown obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 1980. After clerking with the British Columbia Court of Appeal, she was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1982. Prior to joining the Vancouver firm of Davis & Company in 1995, she practiced with Boughton Peterson Yang Anderson. At the time of her appointment, she was Associate Counsel with Davis & Company where she specialized in civil litigation especially those matters touching on insolvency, construction and commercial law. Madam Justice Brown has been a frequent presenter on trial advocacy at the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and the Pacific Law Institute.

This appointment is effective immediately.
