QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, October 11, 2002 - The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Clément Gascon of Montréal, is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. He replaces Mr. Justice J. Archambault who passed away.

Mr. Justice Gascon obtained a Bachelor of Civil Law at McGill University in 1981, and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1982. At the time of his appointment, he was a partner practicing with the Montréal firm of Heenan Blaikie, specializing in civil and commercial litigation. Very active in the management of the firm, he served as a member of the National Management Committee and the National Executive Committee and is a former Head of the Litigation Department at Heenan Blaikie.

Mr. Justice Gascon has been an Instructor for the Barreau du Québec as well as at the Faculty of Law, McGill University and the Faculté des Sciences comptables à l'Université du Québec à Montréal. During his time in practice, Mr. Justice Gascon was a frequent panelist and has published various legal articles in his areas of expertise.

This appointment is effective immediately.
