TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, December 12, 2002 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Brent Paris of Vancouver is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces Judge M.A. Mogan who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Judge Paris received a Bachelor of Laws, with distinction, from the University of Ottawa in 1982, and was admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia in 1983.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Paris was Director of the Tax Law Services Section in the British Columbia Regional Office of Justice Canada. Throughout his career, Judge Paris has practiced primarily in the area of tax litigation.

Judge Paris was a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and of the Tax Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association. He has volunteered as a Moot Court judge at the University of British Columbia and has served as a member of various departmental committees at the Vancouver office of Justice Canada.

This appointment is effective immediately.
