QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

Ottawa, April 22, 2005 – Irwin Cotler, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Dominique Bélanger, of Sainte-Foy, is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec, district of Quebec. She replaces Mr. Justice P. Vézina, who was appointed to the Court of Appeal of Quebec .

Madam Justice Bélanger received a Bachelor of laws from the Université de Montréal in 1979 and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1980. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she sat on the Tribunal administratif du Québec, economic affairs division.

In the past, she has acted as treasurer and private practice representative at the Barreau de Québec and has been a member of numerous committees at the Barreau du Québec. During her career she has been a professor at the Bar admission course and has provided advocacy training at the Séminaire de techniques de plaidoirie de Sherbrooke .

This appointment is effective immediately.
