SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA , May 20, 2005 – Irwin Cotler, Minister Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Gene Anne Smith, of Saskatoon is appointed a judge of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.

Madam Justice Smith received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974, and was admitted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1975.

She was first appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan in 1997. Prior to her appointment she was a professor at the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan .

This appointment is effective immediately.
