NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA , June 24, 2005 – Irwin Cotler, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Theresa M. Forgeron of Sydney is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, Family Division.

Madam Justice Forgeron received a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1986 and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1987.

Prior to her appointment, Madam Justice Forgeron was a partner with the firm H.F. MacIntyre and Associates, where she practised primarily in litigation and family law.

Madam Justice Forgeron is a member of the Bar Bench Liaison Committee for the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, Family Division. In the past she has been a member of the Ad Hoc Committee of Bar Council on the Unified Family Court, the Nova Scotia Court Structure Taskforce and of the Law Reform Commission of Nova Scotia. She is the author of several legal publications and a frequent lecturer.

This appointment is effective immediately.
