FEDERAL COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL
APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 17, 1999 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Denis Pelletier, of Saskatoon, is appointed Judge of the Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division. He replaces Mr. Justice Howard I. Wetston who has resigned.

Mr. Justice Pelletier graduated in law from the University of Saskatchewan in 1980 and was called to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1981. Mr. Justice Pelletier has practised law with the firm of McKercher, McKercher & Whitmore since 1981 and has been a partner of that firm since 1984. He has practised general law with emphasis in insurance law. Mr. Justice Pelletier is bilingual.

This appointment is effective immediately.
