APPOINTMENTS TO THE FEDERAL COURT OF CANADA
OTTAWA, March 10, 1999 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
Roza Aronovitch of Ottawa, Ontario, is appointed a prothonotary of the Federal Court of Canada to work in the Ottawa Principal Office.
Ms. Aronovitch graduated in Law from the University of Ottawa in 1983 and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in April 1985. She first acted as Legal Counsel for Canada Ports Corporation, which is engaged in maritime commerce and transportation.
Following this, Ms. Aronovitch was appointed Senior Counsel for the Bank of Canada. In later years, she returned to work with Canada Ports Corporation as Vice-President, Legal and Realty Services. Ms. Aronovitch is currently a Member of the
Canada Industrial Relations Board in Ottawa. Ms. Aronovitch is bilingual.
Ms. Aronovitch’s appointment is effective March 15, 1999.
Roger R. Lafrenière of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is appointed a prothonotary of the Federal Court of Canada to work in the Toronto Local Office.
Mr. Lafrenière graduated in Law from the University of Manitoba in 1982 and was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba in 1983. He was also admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1996. Mr. Lafrenière practised law with the firm of Marcoux,
Bétournay, LaBossière in Winnipeg from 1984 to 1987. He then became Counsel with the Winnipeg Regional Office of the federal Department of Justice in the areas of civil litigation and immigration law. From 1990 to 1995, he practised
with Treasury Board Legal Services in Ottawa in the area of administrative law, primarily employment law. Since May 1997, Mr. Lafrenière has been Director of the Winnipeg Regional Office of the federal Department of Justice and involved in
the fields of criminal prosecutions, tax litigation, civil litigation and aboriginal law. Mr. Lafrenière is bilingual.
Mr. Lafrenière’s appointment is effective April 1st, 1999.
