JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT TO THE COURT OF APPEAL OF NUNAVUT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, August 25, 1999 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment :

The Honourable Neil C. Wittmann of Calgary, a judge of the Court of Appeal of Alberta, is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of Nunavut.

Mr. Justice Wittmann obtained his LL.B. from the University of Alberta in 1967 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1968. Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeal of Alberta earlier this year, Mr. Justice Wittmann practised law in Calgary with the firm of Code Hunter Wittmann.

This appointment is effective immediately.
