NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA
, March 19, 1997 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:
Gerald R.P. Moir of Truro is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia in Halifax. He replaces Mr. Justice K.P. Richard, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Moir graduated in law from Dalhousie University in 1976, and was called to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1977. He also obtained a diploma in legislation from the University of Ottawa in 1997.
Mr. Justice Moir first practised law with the firm Weldo, Misener & Covert, in Dartmouth, from 1977 to 1980. He acted as a solicitor for the Federal Business Development Bank until 1984. He then joined the firm of Bruchell, MacDougall, with
whom he has been a partner since 1986. Mr. Justice Moir has mainly practised insolvency law and commercial litigation.
This appointment is effective immediately.
