NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, April 16, 1997 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:

Chief Judge Joseph Phillip Kennedy of Bridgewater is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia in Halifax. He replaces Mr. Justice D.M. Hall, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Kennedy graduated in law from Dalhousie University in 1968, and was called to the Bar of Nova Scotia in 1969. He practised general law with the firm of Kenney, Theakson, Kennedy & Allen in Bridgewater from 1969 to 1978, when he was appointed to the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia.

Mr. Justice Kennedy was appointed Associate Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia in 1993 and Chief Judge of the Court in 1996.

This appointment is effective immediately.
