, September 10, 1997 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Linda Katherine Webber of Charlottetown is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown. She replaces Mr. Justice J. Ghiz, who passed away.

Madam Justice Webber graduated in law from the University of New Brunswick in 1977 and was called to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1979. The previous year, she was called to the State Bar of California.

Madam Justice Webber practised law in Charlottetown with the firm of Scales, Ghiz, Jenkins & McQuaid, with whom she had been a partner since 1981. Madam Justice Webber has been Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Edward Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, since 1988.

This appointment is effective immediately.
