ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA
, December 23, 1997 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
Doreen A. Sulyma, Q.C., of Edmonton is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Edmonton. She replaces Mr. Justice J.B. Dea, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.
Madam Justice Sulyma graduated in law from the University of Alberta in 1975, and was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1976. Madam Justice Sulyma has been practising civil litigation with the firm of Cox, Trofimuk, Campbell. She has been a sessional
professor in advocacy at the University of Alberta and a bencher with the Law Society.
Rosemary Nation of Calgary is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Calgary. She replaces Mr. Justice R.V. Deyell, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.
Madam Justice Nation graduated in law from the University of Alberta in 1976, and obtained a LL.M. from Dalhousie University in 1979. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1978.
Madam Justice Nation has practised civil litigation with the firm of Burnet, Duckworth and Palmer, with which she has been a partner since 1985.
These appointments are effective immediately.
