ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, June 12, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Peter Walter Lambert Martin, Q.C., of Calgary is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta in Calgary. He replaces Mr. Justice P.S. Chrumka, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Martin graduated in law from the University of Manitoba in 1976, and was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1977.

Mr. Justice Martin was a prosecutor with the Alberta Attorney General’s Department, from 1978 to 1995. He then joined the firm of Evans, Martin, Wilson, and has been practising primarily criminal law, along with some litigation in civil, environmental and Aboriginal law.

Mr. Justice Martin has been a Bencher and President of the Law Society of Alberta.

This appointment is effective immediately.
