ALBERTA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, January 30, 1998 - The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Brian R. Burrows, Q.C.,of Edmonton is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta in Edmonton. He replaces Mr. Justice J.A. Agrios, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Burrows graduated from the University of Alberta with a LL.B. in 1974 and from the University of London, England, with a LL.M. in 1977. He was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1975.

At the time of his appointment Mr. Justice Burrows had been practising law with the firm of McLennan, Ross since 1977. However, he was Counsel to the Institute of Legal Research and Reform from 1987 to 1990.

This appointment is effective immediately.
