BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

    OTTAWA, February 25, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

    Master Eric G. Chamberlist of Prince George is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Dawson Creek. He replaces Mr. Justice Dean Wilson, who was transferred to Victoria to replace Mr. Justice R.B. Hutchison, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

    Justice Chamberlist graduated in law from the University of British Columbia in 1972 and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1973. Prior to his appointment as a Master of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1994, Mr. Justice Chamberlist practised law with the firm of Hope, Meinrich, where he had been a partner since 1978. He mainly practised family law and insolvency law.

    Mr. Justice Chamberlist was director of the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia from 1986 to 1991.

    This appointment is effective immediately.
