NEW BRUNSWICK JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, January 30, 1998 - The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Ernest Drapeau of Shediac is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick. He replaces Mr. Justice L.C. Ayles, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Drapeau graduated in law from the University of New Brunswick, and was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1974. He first practised law with the firm of Savoie & Drapeau, and since 1987 he has been practising with the firm of Drapeau, Robichaud & McNally, in Moncton. Mr. Justice Drapeau has mainly practised civil litigation, administrative law and insurance law.

This appointment is effective immediately.
