NEWFOUNDLAND JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, October 7, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment.

Robert M. Hall, Q.C. of St. John’s is appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. He replaces Mr. Justice S.B. O’Regan, who was transferred to St. John’s to replace Mr. Justice F.J. Aylward who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Hall graduated in law from Dalhousie University in 1969 and was admitted to the Bar of Newfoundland in 1970. Mr. Justice Hall has since practised mainly corporate, commercial and banking law in St. John’s, and he has been a partner with the firm of Halley, Hunt since 1981.

This appointment is effective immediately.
