ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, May 27, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Mr. Justice Dougald R. McDermid of London is appointed Regional Senior Justice of the Ontario Court (General Division) for the Southwest Region. He replaces Mr. Justice T. Granger, who has resigned from this position.

Mr. Justice McDermid graduated in law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1962, and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1964. He was appointed to the County Court of the County of Elgin (St. Thomas) in 1975, to the District Court of Ontario in 1985, and to the Ontario Court (General Division) in 1990. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Mr. Justice McDermid practised law with the firm of Knight, McDermid & MacDonald in Niagara Falls.

The Honourable Mr. Justice Thomas Granger of London is reappointed a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) in London. He replaces Mr. Justice D.R. McDermid.

Mr. Justice Granger graduated in law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1963, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1965. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court of Ontario and as a member of the High Court of Justice of Ontario in 1988, he practised law with the firm of Lerner and Associates in London. Mr. Justice Granger was appointed Regional Senior Justice of the Southwest Region of the Ontario Court (General Division) in 1992.

These appointments are effective immediately.
