QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, October 21, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments :

Marie France Courville, of Ville Saint-Laurent, has been appointed a judge to the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Montreal. She replaces Justice P. Trudeau, who has chosen to become a Supernumerary Judge.

Madam Justice Courville obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Montreal in 1969 and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1970. She also obtained from the same university a Master’s degree in Law in 1971 and a specialized diploma in commercial law in 1989.

Madam Justice Courville began her practice of the law in the legal department of the City of Montreal, property law section. From 1975 to 1977, she practised property law with the firm of Desjardins, Courville, and subsequently joined the civil and criminal affairs branch of the Quebec Department of Justice. Since 1980, she has been a member of the Bureau de révision de l’évaluation foncière du Quebec.

Luc Lefèbvre, of Montreal, has been appointed a judge to the Superior Court of Quebec, for the district of Montreal. He replaces Justice J.T. Kennedy, who has chosen to become a Supernumerary Judge.

Mr. Justice Lefèbvre obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Montreal in 1971 and was called to the Quebec Bar in the following year.

Mr. Justice Lefèbvre began his practice with the firm of Tansey, de Granpré. In 1975, he joined the firm of Viau Bélanger, now known as Bélanger, Sauvé, and whith whom he has been a partner since 1979. Mr. Justice Lefèbvre’s principal areas of practice have been municipal, administrative and civil law.

These appointments take effect immediately.
