JUDGE BIENVENUE RESIGNS

OTTAWA, September 24, 1996 -- Allan Rock, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced that he has received a letter of resignation from the Honourable Mr. Justice Jean Bienvenue, a supernumerary judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. The resignation is effective September 30, 1996.

A recent report to the Minister from the Canadian Judicial Council recommended Mr. Justice Bienvenue's removal. In view of the fact that Judge Bienvenue has resigned, there is no further action to be taken.
