TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT
OTTAWA, February 29, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Judge Donald G.H. Bowman, a judge of the Tax Court of Canada, is appointed Associate Chief Judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces the Honourable Alban Garon, who has been appointed Chief Judge of the Tax Court of
Canada.
Associate Chief Judge Bowman graduated in Law from the University of Toronto, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1962. He was named Queen's Counsel in 1973.
Prior to his appointment to the Tax Court of Canada in 1991, Associate Chief Judge Bowman was a partner with the law firm of Stikeman, Elliott in Toronto.
Associate Chief Judge Bowman has been a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the American Bar Association as well as the Canadian Tax Foundation and the International Fiscal Association. He has served as a member of the Taxation Committee of
the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Justice Bowman has been a frequent contributor to the Canadian Tax Service and a lecturer for the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
This appointment is effective immediately.
