NEW BRUNSWICK JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, July 28, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Alexandre Deschênes, a judge of the New Brunswick Court of Queen's Bench – Trial Division, in Bathurst is appointed a judge of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. He replaces Mr. Justice R.C. Rice, who chose to
become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Deschênes received his LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick and was called to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1968. Mr. Justice Deschênes was first appointed to the New Brunswick Court of Queen's Bench – Trial
Division for Campbellton in 1982. The following year, he was appointed to the New Brunswick Court of Queen's Bench – Family Division in Moncton. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as a Judge of the New Brunswick Court of
Queen's Bench – Trial Division, in Bathurst, to which he was appointed in 1988.
The Honourable Joseph Theodore Robertson, a judge of the Federal Court of Canada (Appeal Division), is appointed a judge of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. He replaces Mr. Justice P.A.A. Ryan, who chose to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Robertson received his LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick in 1977, and his LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1978. He was called to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1977. In 1992, he was appointed to
the Federal Court of Canada (Appeal Division).
These appointments are effective immediately.
