BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, July 28, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Richard Thomas Albert Low, a judge of the British Columbia Supreme Court, is appointed a judge of the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He replaces Mr. Justice H.A. Hollinrake, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Low received a Bachelor of Commerce in 1963 and his LL.B. the following year from the University of British Columbia. He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1965 and practised in Prince George until his appointment to the County Court of Prince Rupert in 1977. He was subsequently appointed to the County Court of Cariboo in 1980 where he remained until the merger of that Court with the British Columbia Supreme Court in 1990. In 1992, Mr. Justice Low was transferred to the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver.

This appointment is effective immediately.
