ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, October 5, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Mr. Justice S. Bruce Durno of Brampton is appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Superior Court of Justice for the Central West Region. He replaces the Honourable Madam Justice Janet M. Simmons, who has been appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Durno received his LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1974, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1976. He was appointed to the Superior Court of Justice in 1998.

This appointment is effective immediately.
