FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REFERS QUESTIONS
ON SECESSION OF QUEBEC TO SUPREME COURT

OTTAWA, September 26, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, announced today that the federal government will be referring fundamental legal questions concerning Qubec's secession from Canada to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The substance of these questions was made public today in a statement made by Mr. Rock in Ottawa. A copy of Mr. Rock's statement is available.
