ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CANADA SEEKS INTERVENER STATUS IN HÔPITAL MONTFORT CASE BEFORE ONTARIO COURT OF APPEAL

OTTAWA, October 20, 2000 - The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced that the Government of Canada is seeking leave to intervene in an appeal brought by the Attorney General of Ontario in the case of Gisèle Lalonde, Michelle de Courville Nicol and Hôpital Montfort and Commission de Restructuration des services de santé.

The motion filed today in the Ontario Court of Appeal states that this appeal raises important issues of constitutional law and interpretation.
