TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, March 20, 2003 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Judith M. Woods of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. She replaces Judge P.D. Hamlyn who resigned.

Judge Woods received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1974, and a Master of Laws in taxation law from Georgetown University in 1978. She was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1976.

At the time of her appointment, Judge Woods was a partner in the Toronto office of McCarthy Tétrault LLP specializing in corporate income tax. She had been a practice leader in the firm's taxation group and a member of the national Board of Directors of McCarthy Tétrault.

Judge Woods is a former member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Tax Foundation, and of the Taxation Section of the Canadian Bar Association. Judge Woods is the author of various articles and publications on tax issues.

This appointment is effective immediately.
