ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, May 1, 2003 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice
and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
The Honourable James C. Kent of Brantford is appointed Regional Senior
Judge for the Central South Region. He replaces Mr. Justice E.B. Fedak who elected
to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Kent received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western
Ontario in 1967, a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1986, and
was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1969.
In 1982, he was appointed a County and District Court Judge. He was appointed
a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice - General Division, now known as the
Superior Court of Justice, in 1990. He has been the Acting Regional Senior Judge
for the Central South Region since 2001.
Mr. Justice Kent has been a Director and Member of the Council of the Canadian
Judges Conference and the Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association since
1995.
Jane A. Milanetti of Hamilton is appointed a judge of the Superior Court
of Justice. She replaces Mr. Justice James C. Kent, appointed as Regional Senior
Judge.
Madam Justice Milanetti received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of
Windsor in 1983, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1985.
Prior to her appointment, Madam Justice Milanetti was a partner with the firm
Agro, Zaffiro, Parente, Orzel & Baker where she specialized in civil litigation,
mainly in the areas of personal injury, insurance litigation and medical malpractice.
She was also serving as a part-time federal prosecutor for the Attorney General
of Canada.
Madam Justice Milanetti is a former President of the Hamilton Law Association,
as well as the St. Thomas More Lawyers Guild. She is also past Director of the
Hamilton Medical Legal Society, and a member of The Advocates Society, the Defense
Research Institute, and the Trial Lawyers of America.
These appointments come into effect immediately.
