FEDERAL COURT APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, September 26, 2003 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Martha Milczynski of Toronto is appointed a prothonotary of the Federal Court, in the Toronto Office.

Ms. Milczynski received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1987, and was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1989.

Since 1999, she was Chair of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Financial Services Tribunal. At the time of her appointment, she was also a partner with the firm Blake, Cassells & Graydon LLP in Toronto. Prior to that, she had been a partner with the firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP.

Ms. Milczynski has appeared before the various levels of court and has experience in several areas such as pension and benefits, tax, labour and employment law, insolvency, insurance, trusts, privacy, human rights, and contracts law. She is a frequent lecturer and has contributed to various publications.

This appointment is effective immediately.
