QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, September 26, 2003 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Allan R. Hilton of Montréal is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of Québec. He replaces Mr. Justice Morris J. Fish who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. Justice Hilton received a Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University in 1973, and a Bachelor of Laws, also from McGill University, in 1974. He was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1975.

Mr. Justice Hilton was appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Québec in 1998. Prior to becoming a judge, he was a partner with the firm McCarthy Tétrault LLP where he practised in the areas of constitutional law, commercial law and civil litigation.

This appointment is effective immediately.
