SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA , October 30, 2003 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
The Honourable Guy A. Chicoine, of Estevan is appointed a judge of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench. He will be assigned to Estevan and will replace Mr. Justice E.A. Scheibel who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Chicoine received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1979, and was admitted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1980. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1999.
In 2002, Mr. Justice Chicoine was appointed a provincial court judge. Prior to that, he was a partner with Chicoine and Billesberger, a firm of general practice.
Noel S. Sandomirsky, Q.C., of Regina is appointed a judge of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench. He will be assigned to Regina and will replace Mr. Justice J.R. Omer Archambault who resigned.
Mr. Justice Sandomirsky received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1967, and was admitted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1968. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1995.
Since 1975, he was a partner with Kanuka, Thuringer and practised in family law, labour and administrative law. He also acted as a mediator and arbitrator. Throughout his career, he has served as Chair of the Access to Justice Committee in Saskatchewan , and as a member of the Revision of Queen's Bench Rules Committee. He has also contributed to the Family Law Quarterly and was an Instructor of the Bar Admission Course.
These appointments are effectively immediately.
