e-LearningeduSourceCanada (DLORN)The aim of this project is to create a pan-Canadian learning object metadata directory (CanLOM) that conforms to internationally recognized metadata specifications using the CanCore protocol. In addition, learning objects of various types will be created, adapted and tested. Content packaging for learning objects will be implemented. A system of digital rights management (DRM) will be included as a principle feature of the repository. The project started in July 2002 and is expected to end in: December 2003. We expect to contribute toward overall network architecture, metadata standards, and digital rights management technology. Our research results could have an impact on the following sectors: e-Learning, new media, publishing. Research opportunities related to this project: We are looking for research collaborations in digital rights management technologies, personal information management technologies, distributed architectures, metadata, educational object authoring, web services, more. Technical transfer opportunities related to this project: eduSource will produce a set of open source applications in order to create end-to-end functionality with the network. It is expected that numerous commercial applications based on this platform will be developed, including next generation learning and learning content management systems, repositories, e-learning applications, authoring tools and systems, digital rights management and transaction applications, tracking and reporting technologies, third party metadata solutions, and more. Possible applications include: creation of learning on demand for a wide variety of applications. Project partners include: Primary partners: NewMIC, Athabasca University, Netera Alliance, Tele-Universitie, University of Waterloo, Tele-Education New Brunswick; Secondary Partners (Atlantic Region Only): New Brunswick Distance Education Network, New Brunswick Department of Education, Business New Brunswick, ACOA, Université de Moncton, University of New Brunswick, Atlantic Provinces Community Colleges Consortium, Mosaic Technologies, Idon East Corporation, E-Com inc., FutureLearning inc.
