Marilyn Stuart-Major

Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
Marilyn Stuart-Major was appointed Executive
Director of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB)
on June 16, 2003.
She is responsible for the overall administration of
the Board and functions as the IRB's
Chief Operating Officer and principal advisor to the Chairperson.
Ms. Stuart-Major
entered the Public Service of Canada as an Immigration Foreign Service
Officer, with a first posting in London England. Her diverse career has
included staff and line functions in central agencies and operational
departments.
Ms. Stuart-Major comes to the IRB
from the Public Service Commission (PSC)
where she was Vice President, Corporate Management. There she provided
central services in support of the PSC
including the activities of the President and Commissioners, finance,
human resources, informatics, internal audit and other administrative
and support systems. Previously she was PSC's
Director General, Executive Programs, where she modernized the resourcing
and career services for federal executives. Ms.
Stuart-Major was also with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service
(CSIS) both as Director General, Security Screening and Director General,
Policy and with the Department of Finance/Treasury Board Secretariat in
the Crown Corporations Directorate. Finally she has worked on the Green
Paper on Immigration as well as the Immigration Act 1976.
Ms. Stuart-Major holds a Bachelor
(Honours) in Political Science from the University of New Brunswick and
has also studied at the École de langue et civilisation françaises
of the University of Geneva. In addition to numerous executive-level learning
activities, including the Program of Public Executives at Queen's University,
she has completed the Mastery of Coaching program.
Ms. Stuart-Major is married and has two
children, Daniel and Emilie. Her pastimes include swimming, skiing, dragon
boat racing and oviculture.
