e-Learning

Broadly stated, e-Learning is about adapting technologies to enhance learning outcomes. Given the productivity benefits associated with the use of information technologies, e-Learning is an essential component of any emerging strategy that deals with lifelong learning paradigms.

The goal of this Group's research program is to assist, through research, the development of a world-class e-Learning sector in Canada, including support for the e-Learning industry and participation in regional, national and international projects directed toward making e-Learning widely adopted.

Within these broadly defined areas, the e-Learning Group's research directions fall within three main categories:

  1. Collaborative / Social networking technologies / resources for learning
Specific topics within this research direction include social networking principles and knowledge sharing / communities / mapping.

  2. Interoperability of learning resources / systems
Specific topics within this research direction include learning objects, meta-data, specifications and standards for meta-data, digital rights management, development and production efficiencies and workflow / process enhancement technologies.

  3. User / Usage profiling and resource categorization for enhanced discoverability / filtering / adaptation
Specific topics within this research direction include user profiling, collaborative / social filtering, quality metrics and evaluation, automation processes and gaming and simulations for learning
