The Canada Investment Bond
As of April 2, 2004, the Government of Canada is no longer offering the Canada Investment Bond (CIB) for sale. The information contained on this Web site is for the reference of those who purchased a CIB during the 2003-04 sales campaign (i.e. those who own CIB Series 1 through 6).

Fixed rate for full term to maturity.
Interest Types:
Regular interest and compound interest.
Certification:
Non-certificated.
Currency:
Canadian.
Payment of Interest:
Regular interest bonds will earn simple interest until maturity, paid annually until maturity. Compound interest bonds will earn both simple interest and compound interest until maturity, paid at the time of maturity.
Status at Maturity:
Principal and applicable interest are paid out automatically.
Redemption:
Non-redeemable prior to maturity.
Transfers:
Transferable to other Eligible Registration Types.
Eligible Registration Types:
May be recorded in the name of one or more individuals, estates of deceased individuals, in the name of a sole proprietorship, under a personal trust, trustees appointed under a will, eligible charities and trusts governed by an RRSP, RRIF, RPP, RESP, DPSP or an EPSP (but not The Canada RSP or The Canada RIF).
Exchanges:
A regular interest bond can be exchanged for a compound interest bond of the same issue date at any time after issue date up to 10 months after the issue date. A compound interest bond can be exchanged for a regular interest bond of the same issue date at any time after issue date up to the day prior to maturity.
