Human-Computer Interaction - NRC-IIT

Human Factors of Privacy Protection

The Human Factors of Privacy Protection project began in 2001 and is being conducted under the umbrella of the Privacy Incorporated Software Agents project (PISA), a European fifth-framework consortium of which NRC-IIT is a member.

The aim of the Human Factors of Privacy Protection project is to determine what design factors are key when building the interfaces and services that provide privacy protection.

Researchers are more particularly focused on design factors that instill feelings of trust and reduce perceptions of risk. In addition, they are analyzing privacy protection legislation and principles to derive design requirements and solutions.

Research results are being implemented in a prototype agent application that protects the privacy of job seekers on the Internet.

In addition, publishing of design guidelines for building effective, usable privacy protection systems and demonstrations of working solutions based on intelligent software agents are already under way.

Ultimately, researchers expect that their results will benefit software design and development, network privacy and security.
