Source: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-15.31/SOR-89-501/68966.html Regulation current to September 15, 2006 Phosphorus Concentration Regulations SOR/89-501 CANADIAN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT, 1999 Phosphorus Concentration Regulations P.C 1989-2098 19 October, 1989 Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of the Environment, pursuant to subsection 50(2) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act*, is pleased hereby to revoke the Phosphorus Concentration Control Regulations, C.R.C., c. 393, and to make the annexed Regulations respecting the concentration of phosphorus in laundry detergents, in substitution therefor. * S.C. 1988, c. 22 REGULATIONS RESPECTING THE CONCENTRATION OF PHOSPHORUS IN LAUNDRY DETERGENTS 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Phosphorus Concentration Regulations. 2. For the purpose of paragraph 118(1)(a) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, phosphorus and its compounds thereof are nutrients. SOR/2000-106, s. 1. 3. (1) The concentration of phosphorus in any laundry detergent shall not exceed five per cent by weight expressed as phosphorus pentoxide or 2.2 per cent by weight expressed as elemental phosphorus. (2) The percentages referred to in subsection (1) shall be determined by the methods set out in (a) A Modified Procedure for the Determination of Phosphorus in Detergents, Department of the Environment Report EPS 4-WP-74-2; or (b) Automated Method for the Determination of the Phosphorus Content of Detergents, Department of the Environment Report EPS 1-WP-76-1. |
