FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TRADE TRIBUNAL LAUNCHES

A NEW SECURE E-FILING SERVICE

July 19, 2006

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) is launching today a new Secure E-filing Service. The service will allow parties to file electronically both public and confidential documents with the Tribunal. All documents transmitted using the service will be encrypted to ensure their confidentiality.

The Secure E-filing Service can be accessed on the Tribunal’s Web site (www.citt-tcce.gc.ca). It utilizes the Government of Canada’s epass system, which allows the secure transmission of business confidential information. Parties who register for the service will receive a unique epass. This will ensure the secure transmission of original documents.

As of today, the Tribunal is allowing the transmission of documents containing third-party confidential information via the Secure E-filing Service. However, it is maintaining its prohibition against the transmission of documents containing third-party confidential information by e-mail and facsimile. Public documents can still be filed by e-mail or facsimile directly with the Secretary.

The Guideline on the Designation, Protection, Use and Transmission of Confidential Information has been updated to reflect this new service (www.citt-tcce.gc.ca/publicat/Conf_Info_e.asp).
