Most frequent user problems:

1. Problem:

Whenever I try to download a document (zip or pdf format), the browser launches the application instead.

Solution:

The preferences set up inside your browser software are not configured to allow downloading. This setup is a local configuration and has nothing to do with the Tribunal's Web site configuration.

2. Problem:

Whenever I try to browse the pages, some information is missing on the page or pages are partially loaded.

Solution:

Your Web browser must be able to support the JavaScript language in use in our pages. All pages have been developed and tested based on either Netscape 6.x or Internet Explorer 5.5 . This is a minimal requirement.

3. Problem:

Whenever I want to view a document on the Tribunal's site by clicking on one of these words (DOC or PDF) it does not work.

Solution:

Download the desired document on your workstation and then view it from the software installed on your PC.

4. Question:

What do I do if I have a document in the Adobe Acrobat format that contains many columns and from which I want to copy the content of only one column?

Solution:

In the Adobe Acrobat document, hold the CTRL key, and select the desired column, then copy and paste the content of the text in the appropriate document.

5. Question:

When I try to download a document (in zip or pdf format), the system does nothing or I get a message stating that there is a server error.

Reason:

The Tribunal site uses the FTP protocol in passive mode for downloading documents. It is possible that your local configuration does not permit this kind of session; this can sometimes be the case if your site is protected by a firewall.

Solution:

In order to overcome these problems, the new documents that the Tribunal issues can be downloaded using the FTP or HTTP protocol. However, the older documents cannot yet be downloaded using that protocol, but we're working on it.

If you want to download an older document using the HTTP protocol, simply copy the link that points to the document and replace the sequence ftp://ftp.citt-tcce.gc.ca/. . . with http://www.citt-tcce.gc.ca/. . .

6. Question:

When I attempt to download a document (zip or PDF formats), I get an error message from the server.

Reason:

For efficiency reasons, the Tribunal’s site primarily requires FTP, in passive mode, for the downloading of documents. Your local configuration may not allow this type of session. This is often the case when a network is protected by a firewall that does not allow FTP.

Solution:

In order to avoid this problem, all new documents published by the Tribunal offer you the choice between FTP or HTTP for downloading.

Usually, index menus do not contain a link for downloading using HTTP. If this is the case, access the HTML version of the required document and, from the document itself, you should be able to access either the FTP or HTTP downloading mode.
