Section Title: Applications and Forms

Sponsors Living in Quebec

Quebec is responsible for determining whether sponsors living in the province have the financial ability to sponsor family members. The authority responsible for immigration in Quebec is called the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC).

If you live in Quebec, submit your application to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville first, and we will then inform the MICC of your application. The MICC will send you information and instructions on how to assess your financial situation. After you have completed the forms and provided supporting documents, the MICC will tell you if your undertaking has been accepted or refused.

The MICC may refuse your sponsorship application if:

  • you failed to fulfil the obligations of a previous undertaking because the person you sponsored received social assistance and you have not reimbursed the Quebec government
  • during the five years preceding the submission of your application to sponsor, you failed to meet support payment obligations for your children or former spouse(s)
  • you cannot demonstrate your financial capability to sponsor
  • you do not meet other requirements imposed by the provincial authorities

You must read and follow the general instructions in this guide; however, you must complete only one form, the Application to Sponsor and Undertaking (IMM 1344A). Refer to the Quebec chart in Step 1 of How to Apply to Sponsor for more information. If you have further questions, contact the nearest MICC regional office.
