Partnerships and Business Names

The registry maintains business name registration for sole proprietorships or general partnerships and limited partnership information for the territory.

Everyone who forms a partnership, uses a business name other than their own, or indicates more than one member in the business by adding for example, "and company" after the individual's name, for trading, manufacturing or mining purposes must sign and file a registration within 60 days after forming the partnership or after the business name is first used.

When individuals want to register their business name, we do not review the proposed names to make sure that they aren't confusingly similar to ones already on our record. This would only be done when incorporating a limited corporation or registering an Extra-Territorial corporation.
